Extern Marks the Spot

It’s Spring which means Extern marks the spot! That’s right, it’s time for our latest SIU Extern to spend a week at the Fox Architects offices downtown. With Fox SIU Alumnus Dani Sheley playing host, the office welcomes an Extern from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Extern Program every year.

In partnership with the SIU Alumni Association, the Extern Program provides students with professional experience in their chosen career fields. Matched with SIU alumni in a variety of career choices throughout the country, students are able to apply skills learned in the classroom in a professional work environment.

This year, Fox hosted Camy Burgess, from SIU’s interior design program. Camy spent an entire week at Fox, learning the ins and outs of the A/E/C industry. She sat down with veterans and newbies in a variety of roles, learning valuable information and creating connections.

Camy toured a couple of projects, both virtually and in real life. Below she uses Fox’s VR goggles that we leave with clients so they can virtually tour their spaces.

Camy also toured a recently completed project, comparing the project in the VR model vs. real life. (Spoiler alert: it looks amazing in real life. Keep an eye on the blog, as we’ll be sharing it soon.)
