InSinkErator Headquarters
Racine County, WI
Year Completed: 2018
Size: 87,000 SQ FT
As the world’s largest manufacturer of Food Waste Disposers and Instant Hot Water Systems, InSinkErator faced a unique challenge: how to innovate like a startup while owning the market. Having invented the food waste disposer business, their products are recognized worldwide for durability and design.
As new challenges presented themselves, InSinkErator and Fox began planning for tomorrow with a new headquarters and lab facility in Racine County, Wisconsin. Leveraging the power of collaboration, the building places the labs directly in the center of the building, with engineering groups surrounding the perimeter.
A two-story glass wall provides a visual connection between the labs and their collaborators in engineering, while large-scale graphics create brand awareness among visitors and staff. A centralized display area and work/café provide meeting spaces for larger groups, with smaller focus rooms for one or two people sprinkled throughout the floorplan. Within the engineering departments, a variety of team rooms and informal gathering spaces exist, several with walls for visual project management.
Designed to meet LEED Certification, the building features abundant daylight, views to the outdoors, a perimeter walking path through native plantings, energy efficient systems, and an energy exchanger to harvest heat energy produced by the labs.
